Beats 20 to 22 - The River Ithon
Its source close to the Severn
catchment, the Ithon drains the western areas of Radnorshire before meandering
in a southerly direction to join the main river just below Newbridge-on-Wye.
Flowing mostly through Silurian shales, it is often the culprit when
the upper Wye turns a greeny grey colour following rainfall. The river is
very popular with anglers and holds good populations of grayling, trout and
chub. Dace are also present in the Ithon. For 2007, three Ithon beats are
on offer, two of which are main river, the other one of its tributaries.
