Beat 23 Rhayader Angling Water

Again for the 2007 season, WUF vouchers can be used to access the miles of fishing that is available through the Rhayader & Elan Valley Angling Association. From the wild brown trout, grayling, coarse and late season salmon fishing on the rivers Wye, Marteg and Elan to stillwater fisheries in the Elan Valley Reservoirs and Llyngwyn, these waters provide a spectacular and comprehensive choice to the visiting fisherman. This is particularly the case when spate conditions render the river systems difficult or unfishable – as well as an impressive selection of up-land reservoir fishing, the River Elan’s flow is controlled by the dams.

Approximately 5 miles of main Wye and 3 miles of river Marteg fishing for brown trout, grayling and late season salmon.

Prices:
Adults £5.00 per day, OAPs & Juniors £3.00

Season:
Salmon 3rd March to 25th Oct. Trout 3rd March to 30th Septem-ber. Grayling & coarse fishing 16th June to 14th March.
Bait as permitted by the Environment Agency. No maggots allowed. Bag limit 6 fish, minimum size 10 inches.

LlyngwynLlyngwyn

A natural spring fed 16 acre lake set in quiet countryside, 3 miles from Rhayader and again a Trout Master water. The water holds brown trout but is also re-stocked weekly with rain­bows from 1lb to 9lb. 3 boats are available to hire. Interestingly, the lake also hosts a popu­lation of wild carp, originally stocked by Cister­cian monks in the 12th Century.

Day Prices: Adults £18.00, OAPs £16.00, Juniors £5, Boat hire £6. Bag limit 6 fish. Carp day ticket £5. Llyngwyn permit also allows access to the river beats.
Summer Season permits:
20th March to 17th October. Adults £95, OAPs £80, £12 Juniors.
Winter Season permits:

River ElanRiver Elan

2 miles of trout and grayling fishing on this medium sized Wye tributary. Whilst being an attractive river in its own right, The Elan is often the place to head if other parts of the Wye system are in spate as the dams regulate flows. No maggots allowed but other baits permitted as per Environment Agency laws. Season dates mirror those for the Wye and Marteg (see above). Wye & Marteg prices include the Elan.
