Upstream of Staunton Weir, the Mowley Wood beat is amongst the most magical brown trout fishing available in the Wye catchment. The first few two or three hundred metres immediately above Staunton Weir are quite deep and slow, but do hold trout in the summer months. Further upstream the river quickens, flowing over gravel and bedrock. This section has also recently been coppiced. The top of the Mowley Wood Beat ends at the next weir.

3rd March to 30th September

2006 Catches:
Fished best from June through to the end of the season. Good mayfly hatches reported. Trout to 1½ lbs.

Ideally fished with:
7 to 8ft, 3 to 4wt rod.
