The Llynfi Dulas
The Llynfi Dulas has many of the
the characteristics of an Usk tributary, running red when in flood for
example. A weir was removed in 2003 allowing natural spawning well up the
system. At the same time, the Foundation has been coppicing and repairing
the banks. This small stream holds the highest density of trout of any Wye
tributary with plenty of 1lb+ fish. It has a spectacular mayfly hatch – be there for that if
you can! Otherwise, it fishes best from April through to the end of June.
Stealth is required to fish the Llynfi Dulas effectively. Wade carefully, walking on the high banks will mean that you are often silhouetted against the sky. A few anglers have been surprised at how small this river is. When fished properly, with the right tackle and tactics, the Llynfi Dulas can produce spectacular results. That it is the stream most frequented by Foundation staff bears testament to this!
For 2007, over 8kms of this river is on offer, split into 3 adjoining beats, all of which can be classified as small stream fishing.
