Description

For newcomers to Wales (and even some who have been there a while), this water is pronounced 'Club Godrer Munuth Dee'. It consists of one main river Towy beat, four on the Cothi (a prolific Towy tributary) and a long beat on the river Amman, all of which can be fished for the price of a day ticket. The Towy beats are the Wenallt and Pipe Pool near Carmarthen on the lower river and Tirallen, which is between Llandeilo and Llandovery on the upper river. The Cothi beats are spread out and offer a huge variety of fishing. The fishing on the Amman, a tributary of the river Lougher and one of Wales’ hidden gems for sewin, consisting of over 10 miles of river. The main river Towy beat is quite short so you are advised to plan ahead - an early morning on the main Towy followed by some wild brown trout fishing on the Cothi, ending with an evening/night back on the main Towy chasing those elusive Welsh sewin is highly recommended!

For more information on weekly or season tickets go to Clwb Godre'r Mynydd Dee website - Please note that the Towy Llangunor – Wenallt and pipe pool is exclusive to club members and NOT available for Day tickets purchased through the Wye & Usk Foundation.

- Bag limit of 2 migratory fish (either salmon or sea trout) in any 24 hour period.

- All sea trout over 26” in length (approx. 8lb) must be returned alive.

- Bag limit of 2 salmon in any 7 day period.

- Use of one hook (single, double or treble) on any fly or lure to be used after 31st of August.

- Anglers are reminded that this is Club water and exclusivity cannot be guaranteed.

- A Club day ticket allows you to fish any of the seven beats below for salmon, sea trout or brown trout and covers a 24 hour period from 7am to 7am, allowing the mouth watering prospect of fishing for salmon and trout during the day followed by night fishing for the secretive and elusive Welsh sewin!

CGMD Fishing Beats:

1. Towy Llangunor – Wenallt and Pipe Pool

Two miles from Carmarthen this beat includes the famous Pipe Pool on the lower reaches of the Towy between the Gwili and Cothi confluences. This is a prolific beat whether night fishing for sea trout or using any method in the day for salmon and sewin.

2. Towy Llanwrda – Tirallen

Higher up the Towy between Llangadog and Llandovery affording good water for sea trout and salmon fishing on the fly or indeed worm or spinner. An ideal fall back during spate conditions when the fish are running and levels are too high at Llangunor.

3. Cothi Pontargothi – Mynachdu

Not far from the confluence with the Towy, sea trout and salmon will hold here whilst waiting for a flood to take them upstream. Convenient for Llangunnor and a good stop over at lunchtime at the Crescelly Arms before venturing upstream for the rest of the club’s fishing.

4. Cothi Abergorlech – Maesybidiau

Halfway between Nangaredig and our Crugybar beat this secluded beat holds the club (and possibly the Cothi) record sea trout. A good holding spot for both salmon and sea trout.

5. Cothi Crugybar – Ffroodvale and Gwargorof

Over two miles of double bank fishing numerous holding pools with good runs of sea trout throughout the season, wild brown trout fishing and the chance of a salmon.

6. Cothi Cwrtycadno – Frongoch and Aberbranddu

Challenging wild fishing from the Roman gold mines to the source of the Cothi a fun day’s fishing for the adventurous angler in unspoilt countryside and waters.

7. River Aman Pontaman to Garnant

One of the hidden gems of South West Wales fisheries. This river which once ran yellow from the effluent of the coalmines and tinworks is now a sparkling example of the area’s regeneration – the wild brown trout survived the pollution: it boasts trophy sea trout and a prolific late season salmon run.
