Description

Approximately 1.5 miles of mostly double bank trout and grayling fishing on the river Lugg, a few miles upstream of Leominster. The river is becoming renowned as a winter grayling fishing destination, presenting an easier option than the main river Wye and with specimen fish frequently appearing in catch returns. Set in beautiful Herefordshire countryside, however, the Eyton Beat is a fantastic venue for a day’s fishing throughout the year.

The beat is set amongst pasture land and much of the river has been fenced off recently to prevent cattle from entering the river and so that they can’t affect anglers’ enjoyment of the fishery. This makes fishing from the bank a little more difficult in the deeper areas where wading isn’t possible. Otherwise, wading is relatively easy over the gravel and silt riverbed.

Please be aware that access in and out of the river can be difficult in the wooded areas (shown in green on the beat map), caution should be taken when wading here.

This beat is in an area where salmon and trout spawn in the autumn and winter. We ask all anglers to ensure they do not disturb any spawning fish or step close to any redds. When fishing from November to March it is advisable not to wade over knee depth.

Canoeing

Anglers should be aware that there is a right of navigation on the Lugg but that the river is rarely used. Canoeists are not permitted to cross or access the river from private land unless they have permission from the landowner.
