Description

Set in impressive scenery framed by the Sugar Loaf and Blorenge mountains, Glan-y-Cafn is just over a mile of single and double bank Usk fishing just upstream of Abergavenny. The beat offers excellent salmon fishing prospects with 3 substantial and productive pools that fish at most water heights. All the salmon pools are easily accessed and a 160m long walkway runs alongside one of the best fly runs on the Usk, the pool after which the beat is named. The beat also holds an excellent head of trout that average around 1lb and run to much bigger. The streamy water at the top of the beat and around the islands will suit daytime trout fishing, especially during spring olive hatches, while the extensive glide that forms the lower half of the beat fishes particularly well on summer evenings or whenever there is a hatch of fly.

The riverbed is mostly gravel and along with the walkway, the beat is ideal for those requiring easier fishing access.

This beat is part of the evening ticket scheme. Half price evening tickets can only be purchased by phone after 1pm on the day of fishing provided the beat hasn't been booked that day. Fishing is allowed from 5pm.
