The Goodrich Court beat is just over 1 mile of double bank premier Wye salmon fishing, a few miles downstream of Ross on Wye. The fishery is reserved exclusively for salmon anglers and is a succession of classic pools – The V, Dog Hole, Maddox, Vanstone, etc. This is where Robert Pashley caught most of his 10,000+ fish. Suited to both fly and spinner, much of the beat is fishable from the bank although wading is relatively easy when required.

Some key heights on the Fownhope gauge are as follows:

1ft 7” - The Stones on The Maddox are dry.

1ft 4” - You can wade The Stones.

1ft 2” - You can wade The V and middle of Dog Hole.

Best height is around the foot mark but it's well worth a shot at anything between 1ft 8” and dead low water (around 5”).

In The V, Doghole, Stones, Island, Maddox and Vanstone, the beat has some first class fly water. Gabions, Pylons (v. long cast) and Corner Tree are also very good.

The V and Dog Hole look slow and steady but the fly swings beautifully. Fish past the tail of the Dog Hole. There is a mid river channel between there and the Island Run that summer fish lie in.

This beat has a resident Ghillie (Tuesday to Sunday). Please contact the Foundation by telephone should you wish to use this service. Alternatively, his telephone number is on the information provided once a booking is made.

Please note that when only one rod is booked for the day, the house reserves a rod which may be fished by the ghillie.
