Description

Just under 1 mile of double bank trout and grayling fishing on the river Monnow, seven or eight miles upstream of Monmouth. This is some of the most exclusive and sought-after trout and grayling fishing in the Wye catchment. Abundant fly life, including good mayfly hatches, along with a steady flow make this prime dry fly fishing water. Brown trout are the main quarry with a mixture of wild fish and those stocked by neighbouring angling clubs. Grayling are also present, along with the occasional large chub, enabling the fishery to provide all-year-round fly fishing,

Wading is necessary to get the best out of the fishing but is about as easy as it gets in the Wye catchment, the riverbed being a mixture of silt and gravel. Chest waders are still recommended to negotiate some of the deeper pools although anglers will be able to fish most of the beat in thigh waders.

The Bell at Skenfrith is located at the upstream limit of the fishery and is a fantastic place to stay, eat or just enjoy a drink before the evening rise. See www.skenfrith.co.uk for more details or call 01600 750525.
