The Upper Wye - Beats 1, 2 and 3

Open, easy access, typical of the Upper Wye beatsSet in wonderfully remote and rugged scenery, the top of the Wye system offers some of the most inspiring fishing available through the Roving Voucher Scheme.

Located in the heart of Wales, this part of the river flows mostly over gravel, which along with the sparsely distributed trees, make it an ideal place to head for if you are looking for easy wading and access. In addition, the beats often remain fishable when high water is affecting the rest of the Wye system, rising and falling quickly and remaining clear in all but the worst of floods. On the flip side the openness of the area can make fishing here tough when the wind is up. Also, the crystal clear water demands cunning to catch both the trout and grayling, which are usually of a larger average size than further downstream.
