Friday 26th February, 2021

February is usually a month of building anticipation for salmon and trout anglers with the start of the new river season just around the corner. However, recent announcements from Westminster and Cardiff mean that it will be a little while longer before most of us are off the leash.

The current expectation is a resumption of being able to travel for fishing in England on the 29th of March. Meanwhile, in Wales some relaxing of the rules is hoped for on the 15th March.

Sadly, for river coarse anglers whose fishing is not on their doorstep, it is now a case of packing up the gear and looking forward for the start of the new season on June 16th when, hopefully, some normality will have returned to everyone’s lives.

While there is still some further clarity required, we can start to reopen the Fishing Passport in a limited way, even if we may be subject to unexpected changes in lockdown rules on either side of the border in the coming weeks. The Passport will remain closed online for now but we are accepting telephone bookings. Please be aware though that we are still running a limited Booking Office so the lines may be busy.

Of course, should the situation change and bookings have to be cancelled due to changes in lockdown rules, refunds will again be offered. We ask everyone that they make themselves fully aware of restrictions in both Wales and England before booking, as well as the rules on cross border travel.

Thank you,

The Fishing Passport team.
