Education in the value of rivers and their environments is an important part of the Foundation’s work. In fact, it is the second of our two charitable objects.

With generous support from the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust, WUF staff have been helping teach GCSE students in Leominster about the issues affecting their local rivers and wildlife.

Lucinda Lewis (Catchment Advisor) and Colette Mooney (Head of Education) have developed and delivered an interactive session for students at Earl Mortimer College as part of the Foundation’s “Go Wild in the Curl” project. The sessions have brought to life these complex issues and have given them a better understanding of how improvements to the health of rivers also benefit local communities.

Lucinda and Colette used examples of local initiatives that are tackling issues such as degraded habitats and the effects of climate change, including natural flood management (NFM). The students enjoyed learning about positive environmental actions which the Foundation, together with local farmers and other partners, is delivering throughout our catchments.

This is just the start of this exciting project, in which we will carry out further visits to the college and also to local primary schools. However, we want to expand our education work even further and to do so we need your help.

Please help more pupils to learn about the importance of clean, healthy rivers by making a donation to our projects.

Support our education work

Our thanks to the Kingspan Insulation Community Trust for their help in this project.
