Latest News Work Starts on New Lugg Fish Pass Tuesday 30th July, 2019 Earlier in July, work started on the largest and most complex fish pass the Foundation has undertaken. At Ballsgate Weir on the middle reaches of the River Lugg, we are installing a “Larinier” style pass to aid migration of all fish species. The weir had a baulk pass built on it some years ago but this was only effective in certain flows. The new Larinier pass will ensure fish passage in nearly all flows, both upstream and downstream. After conducting a crayfish rescue, the work so far has involved installing a coffer dam above the weir and an inflatable bladder below. This is to ensure a dry area in which we can build the new concrete structure. The pass is due to take several weeks to build but will be ready for this autumn’s migration of salmon and trout. It is being built with help from our partners Environment Agency and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
